The Tokyo Skytree

Welcome to the tallest structure in all of Japan! We stopped by this newly built tower after visiting the Sensoji Temple in Asakusa.

It’s an impressive thing: tallest tower in the world, and second tallest structure behind the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. The Skytree operates primarily as a broadcasting site, replacing the Tokyo Tower which became less effective after a bunch of skyscrapers cropped up around it.

The Skytree is also a huge tourist magnet, with two levels of observation decks (one of which has a bar with desserts and cocktails!) and a massive shopping area on the ground floor.

See that teensy ferris wheel off in the distance? Slightly behind and to the left is Tokyo Disney!

I imagine the cityscape would be gorgeous at night, or at dusk with the sunset reflecting off the steel jungle of Tokyo’s skyscrapers. We were there midday, when it was very hot and very busy in the observation area, so we just stayed long enough to enjoy our soft serve and hazy views from the city’s highest point.

xo,
