A staycation worth melting for
During the 4th of July holiday week, Mark and I had the pleasure (misery? misfortune?) of staying at the Grand Californian Hotel for a couple of nights. What would have been a slam dunk good time any other part of the year turned into an exercise in self preservation, since our staycation happened to line up with the CRAZIEST heat wave I can remember.
When we checked into the hotel on Friday, temps topped 114° Fahrenheit. I kid you not, it was the hottest weather I can ever remember experiencing in my life. The whole park felt like an oven, and just 10 minutes outside was enough to have us feeling like fried crispies.
But, we made the most of it. Partook of the hotel A/C, drank piña coladas and rum-spiced dole whip floats, and mostly stayed inside.
Just standing on the Grand Californian balcony to get this shot was pretty rough. I think we lasted all of 3 minutes before shuffling back inside to the glorious air conditioning.
We beat the heat by staying inside as much as possible and eating…as much as possible. Including these adorable welcome macarons from the hotel staff.
And draaaaanks from Napa Rose.
When we finally ventured into Disneyland around 8pm, it was still 90+ degrees. But, there were fireworks to be watched, so we had to suck it up.
This was our first time catching the Pixar fireworks, and they were lovely. But unfortunately they were cancelled halfway through cause of the wind. Bah humbug.
The next day was every-so-slightly cooler (we’re talking a high of 105 instead of 118), but we mostly kept to our previous strategy of eating and drinking instead of parkgoing.
Although, we did finally make it into DCA for dinner reservations at Lamplight Lounge (a post on that experience coming soon).
Plus, Paint the Night and the new Incredibles float!
I guess some things really are worth melting for.
